NOTES IN PASSING.

The office-bearers and congregation of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church have been fortunate in their choice of a

minister. The Rev. P. Gladstone Hughes is an attractive preacher. He has the gift of making his sermons, which arc marked by thought and scholarship, interesting and telling.

Beginning with the April issue, the "Church Gazette" will henceforth appear in a new and enlarged form. It will have several new features, and the change will coincide with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the elevation to the episcopate of Archbishop Averill.

Dr. W. J. F. Robberds, Bishop of Brechin, and Primus of the Episcopal Church (Anglican) in Scotland for many years, was publicly honoured in Dundee on the occasion of his retirement at the end of the year, and presented with an inscribed silver salver and a draft for 700 guineas.

The celebration last month in Halle, Germany, of the 250 th anniversary there of the birth of Handel, the great musical composer, reminds us that he went to England when he was a young man, and later became a naturalised Englishman. His immoral oratorio, the "Messiah," was produced in Dublin 19:5 years ago in April, 1742.

Sir Halley Stewart, the founder. 11 years ago, of the Halley Stewart Trust to advance religion, to advance education, to relieve poverty, and to promote other purposes beneficial to tho community (at Home) is in his OSth year. All his life lie has combined business with an unbroken interest in religion and the application of its ideals in social life.

Dr. John Fisher, Bishop of Rochester, avid Sir Thomas More, Lord Chancellor under Henry VIII., who is remembered as the author of the sociological and satirical romance, "Utopia," written originally in Latin, are to bo canonised, that is, enrolled by t lie Catholic Church in the list of saints, on Easter Sunday.
