BAPTIST COLLEGE.
INAUGURAL MEETING HELD,
The 1935 inaugural meeting of the Baptist College was held in the Tabernacle yesterday evening. The chairman of the college committee, Mr. W. H. Newton, presided. The devotional exercises were conducted by the tutor, the Rev. A. J. Gregg, M.A., B.D. ■Mr. Newton in his remarks informed the meeting that the college was controlled by a committee having members in all the four centres and referred to their harmonious co-operation and efficient work. Some of the leading business men of the denomination rendered service as committeemen. The meeting greeted the principal, the Rev. J. J. North, D.J).. with great heartiness, as they realised what his presence meant. Dr. North spoke of the difficulties of the Church's work to-day, created in no small measure by counter-attractions of many kinds. The Church must train men who would make the story they told more attractive than the cinema. Four students, Messrs. Jl. Brown, Enright, Jamieson and Reddell, narrated some of their vacation experiences. The Roy. Dr. Hodge, 8.A., 8.D., spoke eloquently on "Our Baptist Witness," closing his address with an intense appeal for aggressive evangelism. The Rev. 11. Knowles Kempton, college secretary, introduced to the chairman two new students, Messrs. G. T. Beilby, of Nelson, and H. L. Trotman, of Epsom. A solo, "How Lovely Are Thy Dwellings, Lord," and a quartet, "Tell Me the Old. Old Story," were sung by members of the Tabernacle choir.
