DANCING AND MIME.

Beautifully staged and artistically presented, the entertainment given last evening at the Scots Hall by the pupils of Madame Edith Baird was enthusiastically received by an appreciative audience. The work in general was of a very high standard, the lour ballets being exceptionally beautiful and varied. The solos, duets and groups were each well rendered, and showed much understanding of technique and grace of movement. One of the outstanding features of the programme was the mime play, "Clementine," which was performed by the original cast, which won such success at the recent festival of the New Zealand branch of the British Drama League. A solo number, "Rhythm of Machinery," by Madame Baird, probably one of the cleverest and most unusual dances seen in Auckland, was followed by a number on the same principle entitled "Rhythm in Colour," performed by two pupils. A number entitled, "Dancers in the Making," showed a class of girls doing various dance exercises. Perfect precision of movement coupled with grace and agility, made this an attractive and interesting spectacle, the girls responding to instructions in French by Madame Baird, who was at the piano.

In addition to dance items, the songs, "The Dandelion" (Dunhill) and "A Brown Bird Singing" (Haydn Wood), were rendered by Mies Amy Hansard, and added considerably to the pleasure of an excellent programme.
