The "Evening Standards" financial editor states that many sections of the Stock Exchange are definitely "bearish," and going beyond the normal seasonal decline. There is a fear about the sterling rate, without substantial foundation. British authorities, knowing that France would want her "bad" money back, wisely allowed the pound to find its own temporary level. Led by gilt edged securities the markets developed a firmer tendency in the afternoon. Gold share were the most active section.
