SURGEONS' COLLEGE
NEW BUILDING. OPENING IN MELBOURNE. DISTINGUISHED GATHERING. The College of Surgeons building, recently erected' on tlio site of the Old Model School, Spring Street, Melbourne, to be the headquarters of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, will be officially opened on March 4. The opening ceremony will be performed by the president of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Sir Holburt Waring, who is making the journey
to Australia expressly for this purpose. Mr. Henry Wade, eurgeon to the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh, will represent the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and Dr. Donald C. Balfour, professor of Surgery of the University of Minnesota, and chief of the surgical staff of the Mayo Clinic, will represent the American College of Surgeons.
Other distinguished surgeons who arc making the journey to Australia, in order to be present, are: Sir D'Arcy Power, K.8.E., F.R.C.S., consulting surgeon to St. Bartholomew's Hospital; Professor Edward Archibald, professor of surgery, McGill University, Montreal; Professor" John Fraser, regius professor clinical surgery, University of Edinburgh; Dr. D«m Lewis, professor of surgery, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore; Professor 6. F. M. Saint, professor of surgery, University of Capetown. There will be a congress of Australian and New Zealand surgeons, extending over a week. Professor F. Wood Jo'ries, F.R.S., F.R.C.S., will give the George Adlington Syme oration, "The Master Surgeon." Many papers of particular scientific interest will be read by the overseas visiting surgeons. Important subjects of general interest will also be considered, amongst them the treatment of cancer; the education of the medical man after graduation, and especially in relation to the education of surgeons and to the hospital facilities for such. The discussions on both these subjects will be opened by Sir Holburt Waring.
