CITY COUNCIL'S CHOICE. Members of the Auckland City Council met at a special meeting yesterday afternoon to appoint three members to the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council. After a ballot, the three members elected were Messrs. G. W. Hutchisqn, S. Takle and H. P. Burton, sitting members. Twenty members of the council attended the meeting. Mr. Hutchison and Mr. Takle each won 11 votes, and Mr. Burton and Mr. Sayegh were next with 10 votes. The names of the second pair were again submitted to councillors for voting, and in the second ballot Mr. Burton won by two votes. "I think that a Labour member of this council should have a scat on the Milk Council," said Mr. M. J. Coylc before the ballot was taken. "There is no official Labour party in this council/' said the Mayor, Mr. Hutchison. Mr. Coylc: You can't get away from the fact that it exists. Mr. A. Rosser: There was a distinction last year. After the result of the ballot had been announced, Mr. Hutchison said he did not believe a position on the Milk Council was one that would bo sought after, but having regard to all the facts he had come to regard it as a public duty. The job had not been an easy one. It had been found that the trade was in a chaotic condition and experience had shown that the Milk Act did not give every facility for overcoming the difficulties which were presented. "A great deal ha 6 been done, but there is a lot still to be done," said Mr. Hutchison. "Already there has been considerable reorganisation and a good deal of that which has been done has not been made public. I consider the Act will operate as designed, provided the necessary amendments are made." An offer to re-submit his election to the Milk Council to the new City Council was made by Mr. Hutchison. He explained that he would not be standing for re-election for the City Council this year,, and he believed that when the new council was elected in May, the members might like to decide for themselves whom they would like to represent them on the Milk Council. lie would be , pleased to re-submit his election for the new councils consideration.
