TRADE PROFITS.

AMENDMENT OF LAW.' COMMERCIAL TRUSTS ACT. MINISTER'S INTENTION. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The announcement of another bill to be added to the short list for the current session of Parliament was made last night at the annual meeting of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr. Masters. It is to be an amendment of the Commercial Trusts Act. The Minister remarked that chambers of commerce had been concerned, and had made repeated representations to him, because they were debarred from getting reasonable prices for some of their commodities by fear of the Commercial Trusts Act. That was a matter which had given him a considerable amount of anxiety ever the last few years. He had a duty to tho public and the consumer, also a duty to those in business, and he believed he had evolved an amendment of the Act which would enable business people to make a more reasonable profit on some goods than they had been able to make recently, and at the same time protect the interests of the consuming public.

"I trust this amendment will go through this session," added Mr. Masters,

"and that it will bo helpful to traders, perhaps not as much as some of them desire, because some would prefer to see the Commercial Trusts Act off the Statute Book altogether. I am hopeful this concession will be helpful not only to merchants, but to retailers, their employees and the general public."
