EMANCIPATION'S HURDLES

Gay Rose Wins Piako.

The Te Aroha Jockey Club's annual meeting is being concluded to-day in fine weather. There is a good attendance and the course is in first-class order.

J Racing began with the Manawaru j Hurdles, in which most money came for I Emancipation and Val Watch, and they finished in that order. Val Watch began best from Brown Abbey, Emancipation and Imperial Prince, leading paat the stand from Emancipation, Solanio, Brown Abbey. Ruling King and Imperial Prince, with Pennyplain and Luminary in the rear. Val Watch still led along the back, with Emancipation, Ruling King, Solanio, Brown Abbey and, Imperial Prince following. Across the top Val Watch was a length ahead of Emancipation, with Solanio eight lengths away, then came Ruling King, Imperial Prince and Pennyplain. -Tha order was the same into the straight, and once over the last hurdle Emancipation headed Val Watch to win by three lengths, with Imperial Prince eight lengths further back. Pennyplain was fourth, followed by Solanio, Luminary and Ruling King. ; High Tea Fails. j Mossvalc was withdrawn from the Elstow Handicap, and British Jewel, who dislodged her rider, W. Pine, whose shoulder was dislocated, was also withdrawn. High Tea, Wahine Reihi and Tin Lap were in most demand with backers, but Royal Dance got the verdict by a length. Queen Nona, Orac, Wahine Reihi "and Royal Dance were first out, Wahine Reihi leading across the top from Queen Nona, Orac, Royal Dance and Tin Lap, with Astarth, Our Bonnie and Kilberis next. Wahine Reihi, Orac and Queen Nona turned f6r home on terms, with Tin Lap,' Royal Dance and Astarth handy. In the run to the post Royal Dance got up to win by a length from Tin Lap, with' Sweet Rose a head away. Our Bonnie was fourth; then came Kilberis, Queen' Nona, Wahine Reihi, Keith Lu and Astarth. A Close Finish. . All the acceptors went to the post in the Electric Handicap, and in a good betting race most money came for .Du Barry, Gay Sheik, and Lady Ruler. .In a close finish Gay Sheik won by a neck. Application, Johnnie Walls, Lady Ruler, and Du Barry were first out, the firstnamed showing the way across the top from Fleetwind,. Lady Ruler, Johnnie Walls, and Du Barry, with Gay Sheik, Callisto,- • -King Flight, and Mafeking next. Application led into the' straight attended by Lady Ruler and Fleetwind. Then came Du Barry, with Gay. Sheik heading the others. Du Barry and Fleetwind were fighting out the "finish when Gay Sheik finished fast and' got the verdict by a neck from Fleetwind, with Du Barry a head away. Johnnie Walls, Velocipede, 'Lady-Ruler; Application,' Callisto, and Mafeking were next.

King Flight ran right over the outside'rail at the turn and was some distance back at the finish. Beau Gallante took charge crossing the top from Barn Dance, On Parade, Bonnie Gay, Gay Rose and Pango, with Nun Nicer and' First Lap next.: Barn Dance was in front again entering: the straight, from Beau Gallante, Gay Rose and Bonnie Gay, and in a good. finish Gav Rose got the verdict by half a length from First Lap, with On Parade threequarters of a length away.
