GOODS VALUED AT £650. MEN ON RELIEF WORKS. (By Telegraph.—Fress Association.) CHRISTCHUKCH, Tuesday. Eight charges of breaking and entering dwellinghquses and cpmmittuig theft were preferred in tUe Magistrate's Court to-day against Walter Albert Speer, aged 24, and Walter Bell, aged 30. The value of the stolen property, according to the estimates of witnesses, was about £650. The total value of the goods recovered was about £150. The accused had made statements to the police admitting the offences. They said they were on relief work and in need of food and clothing for their wives and children. The accused pleaded guilty and were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
