THOUSANDS DEAD.
Ravages of Malaria in Ceylon Province. B<T PER CENT CHILDREN. (Received 10.30 a.m.) COLOMBO, February 3. Deaths from malaria in the northwestern province of Ceylon for January number 7038. The normal death rate is 700. Eighty per cent of the deaths were children. The Government is endeavouring to secure the services of Lieutenant-Colonel S. P. James to direct a campaign against malaria throughout the' island. Colonel James worked in Ceylon 22 years ago. An Indian medical relief party is expected next week. Tha . epidemic is definitely on the decline, but a food shortage is feared. Government relief measures are in full swing.
