NOISE OUTSIDE THE HOSPITAL.
Having lived near the Auckland Hospital for some years, I feel I must write and thank the anonymous but generous-minded individual who is financing the "noise abatement" scheme. Hospital patients must have noticed the difference on Saturday, for I believe most motorists are humane enough to drive quietly when reminded. As an ex-serviceman I know what effect the "macfiine-gun-like rattle" of a motor bike has on my nerves, but those who are sleepless and in pain must feel its effects much more. Perhaps the City Council might be induced to "do something" and make it an ofl'ence to sound horns, make ■unnecessary noises or drive other than slowly past the hospital. Those, vehicles (including heavy lorries and motor cycles, the majority of which apparently cannot be driven quietly) I suggest should use alternative routes. LESS NOISE.
