DROUGHT BREAKS.
RAIN IN THE WAIKATO
LITTLE BENEFIT RESULTS
PEAT FIRES CONTINUE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) JI.VMTLTOX, tins day. After nearly tliree months of continued dry weather, the drought in the Waikato was broken late on Saturday afternoon by three hours of .steady rain, which was experienced in all districts. The full was not of suflicient duration, However, to do much good to the parched pastures, and unless there i* a much more copious full in the near future, little or Jin benefit will result. While some of the smaller outbreaks were checked, the peat iires were hardly affected by Hie. rain, and to-day they are burning with renewed intensity. Although rain threatened in Hamilton early on Saturday afternoon, it was nearly 4 o'clock before the steady downpour started. The local recording was only .Klin. Other districts throughout the Waikato received more rain than did Hamilton. The weather yesterday wae again fine.
