A summer residence at Oratia, at the foot of the Waitakere Ranges, owned by Mr. J. N, Rishworth, of 2, Burrows Avenue, Parnell, was destroyed by fire last evening. Mr. Rishworth, who was spending the week-end at the house, was working in the garden when the fire broke out about 7.30 p.m. The Henderson brigade, although unable to save the house, prevented the fire from spreading into the bush surrounding it. The house was insured for £500 by the New Zealand Insurance Company.
