NATIONAL PARK MOUNTAINS
WEATHER NOW MISTY. Ngauruhoe continues active to-day, though the eruptions this morning wore not so great as they were on Saturday afternoon and evening. Volcanic activity began about 2.30 on Saturday afternoon immediately after an intense thunderstorm, when a column of sanoke and steam went up to a height of 4000 ft. In the evening just about dusk activity became greater, when it was also seen that Ruapehu lakes and the Ketetahi springs on the side of Tongariro were sending out steam -warnings. Exactly what is happening to-day was lia.rd to "determine, said Mr. R. Cobbe, manager of the Chateau, because clouds were low over the whole range, and the weather was misty. . However, when the peaks cleared intermittently, it was seen that Ngauruhoe was sending steam 1000 feet up. It was an extraordinary happening to see at the Chateau activity from Kliapehu and the Ketetahi springs, Mr. Cobbe added. Steam was rising from Ruapehu lake some hundreds of feet above the summit on Saturday, while the steam clouds from the springs then were at least 200 ft high. It was the first time in four years that tlie three mountains had x shown such pronounced activity at the same time.
