PACK DRILL.
20TH BATTERY CAMP.
INNOVATION AT ROTORUA. GUN ON A HILLTOP. The 20tli (Light) Battery, N.L.A. returned from Rotorua yesterday after completing its annual oainp. There was a good muster of territorials in camp and an excellent shoot was accomplished. A blank shoot was carried out last Friday in the vicinity of the camp,
on the Arawa Park racecourse, and a live sliell practice on the Ati.iimuri Range 011 Monday and Tuesday.
An outstanding feature of the training was the occupation of a position 011 a hilltop, otherwise inaccessible, -by packing a gun 011 horses. As this pack drill was carried out under arduous weather conditions, and is an innovation in the Dominion, great credit can be given to the drivers and gun detachments. The only place in which a pack battery is established is in India, where it operates with the use of mules, whereas at Rotorua it was carried out with horses, a much more difficult undertaking. There is 110 doubt that the battery had returned with increased knowledge, mobility and general efficiency as a result of the camp.
The- battery is under the command of Captain F. C. Rawle, who had with him Lieut. R. W. Sharp and 2nd Lieuts. D. B. Patterson and J. L. Duigan.
