S. AUCKLAND METHODISTS,

TE AWAMUTU, Wednesday. The South Auckland District Synod commenced in the Methodist Chinch 01 Tuesday evening, when the minibtcnal session was held. The following probationers were nassed in their respective years: J.ne Revs. R. Day (liuntly), B. M. Chrystall (Waitoa), J. L. Mitchell (Tc Kuiti) and John" (Whakatanc). A Svnod social was held 011 Tuesday evening, when the church was crowded. The Rev. W. J. Oxbrow, of Tc. Aroha, presided. Words of welcome were given by the Mayor, Mr. C. G. Downes, the Rev A. E. Jefferson and Mr. J. i. Johnson. The Rev. A. W. E. Silvester and Mrs. Silvester, Otorolianga, offered themselves for service in the Solomon Islands mission fields.

An application was received from the Hamilton circuit that the second minister be a probationer. After discussion it was recommended that the position be tilled for two years by a married probationer. A new home mission station at Kawhia was recommended. Statistical returns showed a level near that of the previous year, with the exception of a considerable increase in communicants. Gratification was shown at the failure of the effort to have liquor licenses granted in the King Country, and church people were urgt I to support to the utmost the efforts of the New Zealand Alliance.
