FUTURE OF THE MAORI.
A MAORI'S CONFIDENCE. Speaking this morning at the Methodist Synod, the Rev. E. Te Tuhi referred appreciatively to the work of Sir Apirana Ngata, whom he described as "the most cultured Maori in the Dominion, and a great man." He went on to speak hopefully of the future of the Maori race, saying it was going to be ?i great factor ill the Dominion. The Maori's prospect was being made easy by education, and lie was adapting himself to circumstances. "The Maori is not a dying race," declared Mr. Te Tuhi; "there are now 73,000 in Kew Zealand.
. . . There is no mistaking the fact that the improvement brought about by the Government in regard to Maori lands is the finest effort any Government has ever introduced for the Maori."
