KING'S WIN WITHOUT THRILLS.

Without thrills or excitement, in a game which was really decided by the events of the first day, King's Old Boys got a comfortable first innings victory over Grafton at Middlemore. The uphill fight of Grafton, after the loss of four valuable wickets the previous week, raised hopes at times that they might be able to reach the King's score, but by the afternoon tea adjournment when their last wicket fell tliev were still 30 short. Cowie and Ellis performed best with the bat. and Burke got a bright 20. Nothing hung upon King's second venture at the wickets. It was little more than batting practice, in which Caughev shone by knocking up a vigorous 50„ including two sixes, and Pearson played confidently for 31. From Grafton's po'int of view the main feature was the consistent bowling o£ Cowie, who finished with an average of seven wickets for 40, thus duplicating his success of the previous Saturday.
