STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

' TO HAVE A LENGTHY SPELL. Marcus Cicero, who had to be scratched for his engagements at the Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting owing to injuring himself in a gallop last week, will not be on the scene again for a long time. Ho is to be gelded and then given a long spell, the present intention being to allow him to run out until next spring.' COPEY IN GOOD ORDER. Latest reports from Hawera state that Copey is working as well as over and b;is seldom looked better.. All going well Copay will be brought- to Elleyslie for the Auckland slimmer meeting, where he will contest steeplechase events. This horse invariably runs his iDest races at Ellerslie and may win some money during the trip. STURDILY-BUILT FILLY. •The Whirlwind—Lady Cintra hlly Princess Marina, who is doing light exercise under her owner's guidance, made her first appearance at Ellerslie last week. She is not very big. but is built on sturdy lines nnd is a good-constitutioned filly. Princess Marina, who is owned and trained by Mr. E. H. Cucksey, will require a lot of time before she is ready to race., GOOD-LOOKING JUVENILE. One, of the best-looking juveniles scon at Ellerslie for some time is Prival, a two-year-old son of Vaals and Cradle Song. He is well developed, shows abundance of, quality, and is also a good-mannered youngster. Prival, who is trained by W. Gall, is descended from the well-known Lullaby family, which has produced some first-class performers in the past. GOING ON THE RIGHT WAY. Although not been hurried in her preparation at headquarters, the bay filly by The Ace from Duchess Endorus is making excellent progress. She lias been sprinted a few furlongs on several occasions lately and has shown encouraging speed, considering her limited experience. This filly is a half-sister to Royal Tea and : Deputy Iluler. , '" i MANFRED'S PROGENY MAKE GOOD. The Valais horse .Manfred seems at last to' be taking his proper place as a sire. He had two winners in two-year-old events at Moonee Valley on October 27. His daughter Perfumery also won a division of the Yan Yean Stakes at Flemington a few days later, while another daughter was narrowly defeated in the Mimosa Stakes. Manfred is represented at Kiccarton to-day by Ked Manfred. RELATED TO HUNTING CRY. Sporting Blood, whose latest form entitles him to be ranked ■as the leading three-year-old seen out this season, is closely related to Hunting Cry. His dam Gazi is by Gazeley from Cheddite, who produced Natalite, the dam or Hunting Cry .Cheddite was by Soult from Lyddite, bv Derringer from Leisure Hour. .Nothing definite is known about the breeding ot Leisure Hoiir, but it is rumoured that she was brought over from Australia over 30 years ago.

Derby on Ballymena and Amnion Ra the Great Northern Derby on Jinthusiasra and Ballymena, and the JSew Derby on Enthusiasm. Winooka had his first trial since returning from America at Randwick one day last week, being sent five furlongs; - In the carlv stages the Windbag horse strode out in his best style. It was not intended that'he should work fast, but Winooka allowed such eagerness in the iirst lurlong that his rider had to use strong-arm tactics to slow him down, l'or the lull journey Winooka occupied 1.9. So rapidly has Winooka advanced that ho may be ready to show something in keeping with his best deeds at Randwick during the Christmas and New Year meetings: WELCOME CHANGE OF LUCK. With a record of nine minor placings and no wins this season, the luck of the stable presided over by Mrs.: J. Campbell at Riccarton was much in- need oi a change, and Vintage broke the spell m the Fen'dalton Handicap on Monday. Vintage was making his first appearance at the meeting and won very. attractively. Vintage made his debut'at Motukarara just over a year ago, running third in the Okains Trial. At his next start_he won the C J.C. Seymour Handicap. His most important success last season was gamed in the Dunedin Cup. WON THREE ON END. Southern reports state that Rebel Chief made tlrt opposition look very ordinary by the manner in which he defeated them in the Randolph Handicap at Riccarton on Monday. His brilliant speed carried him to the front very early, and alter leading to the straight he cleared right out from the field He has now won three races on end, starting at Motukarara and with.a win on each day so far at Riccarton he looks one of the best hacks that have been produced for some time, and before the season is. much farther advanced he will be winning good races in open company, with prospects of going on further than seven furlongs.

CROUPIER DOING WELL. Recent reports from Sydney state that the chestnut horse Croupier has done so well on his course of treatment at a Sydney veterinary hospital that his owner, Mr R J- Murphy, would be surprised, no i doubt, if he could see him now. Croupier 1 was bled and treated to a course of medi'cine and the latter portion of his euro iis beiiiK continued still. He has resumed work at Randwick, but his exercise is nothing more than trotting. If Croupier should come right Austrilians will presently admit that, in addition to ranking as a commanding horse, th- son of Surveyor is a first-class galloper. •

AGAIN ASSOCIATED. Mr. T. H. Lowry's two two-year-olds Hant blonde and Kotou have been sent to F. Davis, of Woodville, to train. Davis was formerly associated with Mr. Lowry in m;iny important 6nceesscs. and trained for him sonic great horses, including BobrikolF, Finmaik, Estland, Balboa and Desert Gold. RACING CONSISTENTLY. It is just over two months since Red Boa was transferred to 15. J. Ellis' stable at Washdyke (says a southern writer), and in the interval the Balboa gelding has only been out of the money once in eight starts, while his performances for that period are four wins and tlnee seconds. He was responsible for his best race to date when he won the Epsom Handicap at Riccarton last Monday and ran out the mile in 1.39— a truly remarkable effort when it is considered that he is eleven years old.
