RACE ACROSS TASMAN. Christchurch Proposal Under Consideration. FLYERS IN MELBOURNE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Prospects for a Tasman air race from Melbourne "to Christchurch have been improved as the result of an interview which the Mayor of Christchurch, Mr. D. G. Sullivan, has had in Melbourne with Mr. C. W. A. Scott and representative Dutch and American flyers who took part in the Centenary race. Mr. Sullivan, in response to cables sent by the secretary of the Canterbury Aero Clob. has replied to the effect that he has discussed the matter witli Mr. Scott, who is interested in the proposal. The Dutch and American airmen are considering the project, but would like more time before replying. Mr. Sullivan asks if the club can make a Arm offer.
The Aero Club here hopes to raise £2000 for a race to be held about November 17.
DRAGON 'PLANE. FUTURE NOT DECIDED. A denial of the statement reported to have been made in Melbourne by Flying Officer Kay that the D.H. Dragon 'plane used by himself and SquadronLeader J. 1). Hewett in the Centenary Air Race has been commissioned for air mail work in New Zealand, was made to-day by Mr, Spencer Mason, president of the Auckland Aero Club.
Mr. Mason said that when the machine arrived from Melbourne a tour of Xcw Zealand would be planned for the flyers, but no decision had yet been made by the New Zealand Air Race Committee as to the use of the 'plane. There had been suggestions that it could be used for air mail work or that it could be used as an ambulance —it could carry a doctor and two nurses—hut consideration had not been given to its later use.
