—— ■—■ — -♦ — WAKATERE CLUB. FIRST SWEEPSTAKE RACE. Tlio Wakatere Boating Club held a sweepstake race on Saturday for their lift class. There were eight starters, the course being once round, starting and finishing off Narrow Neck, Devonport. A close race resulted, Waiata, lJm (J. Hurren), 1 ; Waimarie, scr (J. Brookes), 2; Windjammer, 2m (B\ Freakcs), 3. HEIJNE BAY CLUB.

The Heme Bay Sailing Club held two races on Saturday for the boats of the 12ft Silver Fern class. In the iirst race they were hnndledl'liy junior skippers and crew, and by seniors in the second event. Master Colin Dennes won the lirst race arter a close contest with Valaric. Geoff Hodgson being second on handicap. Mr. C. Philpot won the seniors in Valario by a margin of 32s from Silver Fern, Mr. Geo. Dennes. Both races started and finished off the Fonsonby wharf.

12ft Class (juniors).—The starters were reduced to four, the fresh westerly breeze and low tide preventing several from getting up to the line. The handicaps were: Silver Fern scr, Valarie 30s, Nancve Cm, and Siola Dm. Silver Fern, Valarie. Nancye and Siola got away in this order to a fair start. All carried spinnakers for the Curran Street mark, where they were smartly changed over to port for the broad lead to Bona buoy. Silver Fern went out ahead from the start, and led Valarie by lm 20s at Bona buoy, Nancye being close up but Siola retired. On the beat up harbour to Pile beacon. Silver Fern Improved her lead a little. On the run to Curran Street Nancye did well, passing Valarie ami coming up a bit on the leader.

On (he second round the three boats were close together, Silver Fern leading tit Komi buoy by 00s from Nancve. with Valarie 27s Inter. On the scco'nd beat to the Pile beacon Silver Fern did very well, while Valarie passed Nancve, which again picked up time on the run to Curran Street, her crew being very smart setting the spinnaker. Silver Pern was now sailing splendidly and the finish was: Silver Fern (scr) 4h Oni lug, Valarie (30s) -Hi 3m 255, Nancye (Cm) <lh 7m 10s. Corrected times place Silver Fern (Master Colin Dennes) 1, Nancye (.Master Geoff Hodgson) 2, Valarie (Master Ray Hurley) Seniors..—The starters and handicaps were: Silver Fern (Geo. Dennes), scr; Valarie (C. Philpot), scr; Hiker (Captain \\. R. Percy), 2m; Siola (R. Simmons), 2ni 30s. The cotirse was (o Bona buoy and back. ■ Silver Fern was first off, with Valarie and Siola close up, Hiker being over a minute later. It was a very close no between Silver Fern and Valarie to the Bonn buoy, Valarie leading round 10s ahead, Siola being lm 30s and Hiker 2m 35s later. On the close haul into the wharf, Valarie gained a few seconds from Silver Fern, both boats sailing very fast The finish was: Valarie 4h 41m 20s, Silver Fern Hi 41m 525, Hiker 4h 45m 3{>s. Siola -1H 47m ss. Result: Valarie 1, Silver Fern 2, Hiker 3. Messrs. I. Dennes and A. Percy were in charge.
