NEW WOMEN'S CLUB.

TALK ON TRADE. A large number of members of the New Women's Club and their friends were on Friday given an interesting address by Mr/ W. B. Darlow on "Import and Export Trade." The president, Mrs. Kirk, was in the chair. Mr. Darlow said that all trade was an endeavour to procure goods. In the olden days of scarcity many countries were loathe to part with their goods unless they received goods or gold in return. To-day gold was out of the question, and if a country only exported goods it could only expect goods in return. The position to-day was that practically every country wanted to send its goods out and take very little in return. In the past 38 years the United States exported 121 billion dollars' worth of goods, against 84 billion dollars' worth imported. The balance owing to her was never likely to be paid, for if those debtor nations wished to pay America, they could only pay the amount in goods, and the navy of the States would be used to prevent that taking place. The position in New Zealand was also dealt with. Mr. Darlow said we would like to have our labour engaged in making everything that is now imported, and we would like our farmers to double their export of butter, cheese, meat, fruit, wool and hides. We exported only so that we could be paid by the import, and yet we refused 'to accept payment. Countries that exported more goods than they imported became not richer but poorer. Mr. Darlow, who answered many questions, was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.

DIXIELAND. A very large number of dancer* attended Dixieland on Saturday, and a very enjoyable night was spent dancing to the captivating music of Dixieland'* New Internationals. Among several of the parties was one given by Miss Doris McGowan in honour of her twenty-first birthday. _._.. __._
