ST. ANDREW'S SOCIETY.
HALLOWE'EN CELEBRATION. The Auckland St. Andrew's Society held its hollowe'en social in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall on Saturday evening. The large audience of young and old people, all equally "bairns" for the night, on entering the hall were presented with hags of sweet;,, balloons and gaily bedecked with many-coloured tartan "Glengarry" caps.
The president, John W. Bissett, J.P., accompanied by the guest of the evening, past-president Captain D. MeCrone, J.P., vice-presidents D. A. Taylor, D. McLaren, A. D. Munro, and Rev. R. Ferguson Fisk were piped into the hall and on to the dais by Pipe-Major D. Ferguson. After the National Anthem the president, in a short address and eulogy of the services rendered by the guest of the evening, invested past-president Captain MeCrone with the regalia of office, and installed him in the chair to preside for the evening. A pantomime, "The Ogre in Fairyland," produced by Miss Lillian Braithwaite, was then presented, and in its admirable stage setting and brilliance of costume, was enthusiastically received. Several gems of the songs of Scotland were sung by Mr. W. Gemmell and Mrs. Rattray. The Rev. R. Ferguson Fisk then addressed the audience on "The Homeland of Scotland."' Vice-president D. A. Taylor extended the thanks of the society to Miss Braithwaite, the artists, the ladies' auxiliary, and to the generous donors of many gifts towards the children's happiness that evening. Supper was then served.
in, and spotlight colour effects again made the scene a memorable one to young and old. Miss Lillian Braithwaite officiated as accompanist throughout the evening. Highland reels and dances for the older folks, to the stirring strains of the pipes, completed the programme of the evening. The president, Mr. John W. Bissett, voiced thanks to Captain McCrone for presiding.
