ONE-DAY MATCHES

A.C.A. Second Series—Century List Opened. The second series of matches under the auspices of the Auckland Oriekst Association are being played to-day at Victoria Park, Eden Park and North Shore. With the overhead conditions ideal and the wickets faster than on Saturday, the games were characterised by better scoring than in the opening games, with the result that the season's century list was opened. The games in progress are: — UNIVERSITY v. Y.M.C.A. When Graham and Jessup, of University, faced the bowling of Simpson and T. Lyon, of Y.M.C.A., No. 2 wicket was heavy and kicked up a bit for a start, but the defence was steady. Graham was missed badly for a "sitter" at deep mid-off by H. Lyon off T. Lyon, when he had reached double figures. Jessup was taken with a fine one-handed catch by Stowell, off Cooper, when the total was 40. Lango joined Graham, who was batting cautiously and notching an occasional boundary. H. Lyon succeeded Simpson, who signalised his return by skittling Graham. The batsman had contributed a useful 3S in an hour and thirty-five minutes. 'Varsity were 93 for three wickets at 11.45 a.m. Wickets began to fall rapidly in the next half-hour. Haden went l.b.W. and Bush held the fort to see Matheson and Sutherland dismissed successively without scoring. Dixon gave Bush timely support and three figures ivere reached at noon. The seventh wicket partnership carried on steadily, and Bush brought the team's tally to 130 with a six to long-on off Lyon. Bush continued to play with enterprise, and was 45 by 12.45. Shortly after 1 p.m. Bush lifted a straight one over the bowler's head and was caught by G. Sutherland. UNIVERSITY.—First Innings. The decision was unfortunate, for the wicket -proved to be a fairly easy one, and by liinch time Ponsonby had made 210 runs for five wickets. R. Cleave, one of the opening batsmen, played a steady innings, and at the adjournment had reached his century. With F. Clark, a hard-hitting batsman, he put on 70 runs for the fifth wicket, 4S of them being contributed by Clark, chiefly through lofty boundary hits. Clark's merry innings was sprinkled by three missed chances of catching. The score at lunch was:— TONSONBY. —First Innings.
