Polly Pan Fails.

Never Looked Like Winning— Young Rodney Also Unplaced. In a tight finish the Hamilton-trained Waikato Prince scored in the Greenlanc Handicap from the outsider Grand Triumph, the latter spoiling his winning chance by going to a break in the last 30 yards. The favourite- was Polly Pan, but she never looked like winning at any stage, and the nearest she ever got to the front was fifth. At the start Kelson's Glory, Audo Patch, Polly Pan and Wrackless all went to a break, Wrackless being particularly bad and being well in the rear when he struck a gait. Grand Triumph led early from Captain Bolt and Waikato Prince, and when they had gone around and were passing the stands, Grand Triumph was just clear of Waikato Prince, with Polly Pan, Captain Bolt and Young Rodney (second favourite) following. Along the back Grand Triumph and Waikato Prince were together in the lead, with Young Rodney, Captain Bolt, Autumn Lu and Stalky all handy. Grand Triumph and Waikato Prince then drew out, and were six lengths in front of Autumn Lu and Young Rodney turning for home. In the run to the judge Waikato Prince was the more solid and beat Grand Triumph, who went to a break in the last 30 yards, by a length ar>d a quarter. Autumn Lu was two lengths away, with Mountain Sun half a length further back. Young Rodney was fifth, followed by Polly Pan and Wiriwhata. Hot Favourite Breaks. Play Lady, a hot favourite, epoilt any chance she had in the Newmarket Handicap by breaking up badly at the start. Bismuth, also well backed, broke 113 along the back the last time, and was pulled \\p, and Direct Line was another who did not complete the course. At the start Nelson Luvan began best, and ran to the front from Kewpie's Crest and Proletarian. Passing the stand the order was Xelson Luvan, Proletarian, Kewpie's Crest, Xellota, Lucky Love, Bismuth and Star Pronto. As they went along the back Star Pronto improved his position, and before crossing the top was alongside Xeleon Luvan in the lead, with Proletarian, Xellota and Lucky Love close up. Xelson Luvan drew out a little and turned into the straight clear from Star Pronto, Xellota and Lucky Love. In a great race home Lucky Love got up to win by a neck from Star Pronto, who beat Xelson Luvan by a neck, with Rare Rey a head away fourth, and then followed Silver Watch, Kewpie's Crest, Xellota and Proletarian. Consistent Winner. The consistent Worthy Light started a hot favourite in the Labour Day Handicap, went" to the front early, and, leading throughout, won nicely by threequarters of a length. It was a good race to watch, the field being well hunched until they had entered tho straight. All went away well, and when they reached the stand the first time Worthy Light was just cloar of Willie Derby, and in behind them were First Flight and Great Parrish, with the others all handy. When they came round again and set out on the last lap, Worthy Light was leading, a length in front of Willie Derby, with Ayrmont Chimes third on the outside, followed by Great Parrish, Impromptu, First Plight, Kewpie's Triumph, Jewel Pointer and Peter Pirate, there being only half ft dozen lengths between the lot. AyrWont Chimes faded out along the back, but the other positions remained unchanged. Crossing the top, Worthy Light Was still in charge from Great Parrish end Willie Derby, who were together n length and a half away, with Kewpie'H Triumph moving up on tho outs : de. Tμ the run to the judge Worthy Light held off the opposition and won by threequarters of a length from Willie Derby. With Kewpie's Triumph half a length away. Great Parrish was less than a length away, foiirth, being followed by Jewel Pointer, Ayrmont Chimes, First Flight, Peter Pirate, with Impromptu last. An Easy Victory. Realty, favourite on the win machine, hut only third choice on the place, scored a very easy victory in the Junction Handicap, in which he waited on the leaders till the straight was entered niul then beat thorn pointless for pace in the run home. Free Logan and Gunifliggev went to pieces at the start and lost considerable ground. Clandore began well and led from Holioro, Travis and Realty, with Free Logan and Gumdigger Well back. There was no alteration for a Hiile, but going along the ba.ck the last time Travis and Hohoro both moved up close to Glandore, with Kealty tucked in ;

behind them. Glandore had a shade the best of it turning for home, but once straightened up Realty came away to win very easily. Glandore was driven right out to hold off ITohoro, while • Travis, who stopped in the straight:, was a moderate fourth. Free Logan and Gumdigger were some lengths away.
