WRESTLING.
SONNENBERG BEATS BEY. HAMILTON, this day. Repeated use of strangle holds caused AH Bey (15.0) to be disqualified in the fifth round of his match with Gus Sonnenberg (15.4) at the Theatre Royal last •evening. At the time that Bey was ruled out each man had scored a fall.
A series of flying tackles followed by a press allowed Bey to open the scoring in the third round. On returning to his corner after this fall Sonnenberg ■ complained to the referee that he had injured his nose and experienced difficulty in breathing, but he decided to wrestle on. In the next round Bey gained a fall with a body press without his opponent offering any resistance. At the start of the fifth round Sonnenberg appeared very groggy. Bey, however, resorted to strangle holds, and after several warnings was disqualified. There was little real wrestling in the match, and a small crowd counted both men out several times.
The amateur preliminaries resulted:— F. Haines (Hamilton) 9.4, beat C. Lee (Hamilton) 9.6, by two straight falls; A. Webb (Hamilton) 9.0, beat G. Bobinson (Pirongia) 8.10, by one fall in the third round: L. Bulford (Te Awamntu) 10.12, beat D. Whatu (Hamilton) 11.0, by two straight fallsj C. Woolston (Pirongia) 11.4, beat G. Sever (Te Aroha) 11.2, by one; fall gained in the second round* I
