GOOD PROGRESS MADE
CUSTOMS ACT AMENDMENT. THIRD READING ON TUESDAY (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON", this day. As the result of progress made last night ;ind this morning, the House of Representatives will virtually complete its consideration ot (he Customs tariff revision when it rises this evening for the week-end adjournment. There are 440 Hems in the schedule to the Customs Act Amendment Bill, and up to the luncheon adjournment today 387 of them had been adopted. An examination of two classes of goods, radio sets and electric cookers, has been postponed until 'Tuesday because of representations which the Minister of Finance, Mr. Coates, is to hoar on Monday, so that when the House resumes on Tuesday it will complete the Committee stages of the hill and as well accord the measure its third reading. Incidentally, it is many years since the overhaul of Customs 'tariff in New Zealand has been dealt with so expeditiously by Parliament. " The principal subjects of debate yesterday were baking powder, wearing apparel, and boots, whereas this morning duties on tinware anil motor vehicles occupied most of the attention of members.
