J ASHBURTOX, Saturday. : The spring meeting of the Ashburton County Racing Club was held to-day in fine but cold weather. The track was in good order and there was a good attendance. The totalisator handled £7743 10/, against £6164 for seven events last year. In the Penscroft Handicap, the winner. Gold Cross, paid a dividend of nearly a century and a half. After the Longbeaeh Hack the stewards held an inquiry into a complaint by Brodie, who rode Hunting Go, against Murfitt, rider of the winner, Cottingbam, alleging interference at the turn into the straight. After hearing evidence the stewards took no action. An inquiry was also held into the running of Wild Dreams in the Selma Trot, the stewards taking no action. After Bella Rosa (Xovicc Stakes) anil Cottingbani (Longbeaeh Hack) had won the opening events, later results were: — SELMA TROT of £85. One mile and a half.
