SPRING RACING.

WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB. I»IN MONEY WINS GUINEAS. TIGER GAIN THE HIC.GIE HANDICAP. / Sunny weather prevailed for the concluding day of the "Wanganui Jockey Club's spring meeting, and in consequence there was a good attendance, and the course was in excellent order. Tiger Gain annexed the Higgic Handicap, the chief flat event of the day, while Pin Money, trained by F. Davis, accounted for the three-year-old classic —tlio "Wanganui Guineas. During the day the sum of £11,015 was put through the machine, compared with £9277 10/ for the corresponding day last year. This made a total for the meeting of £15,611 10/, an increase of £3080 10/, which was .most satisfactory. The Two-year-olds. All acceptors went to the p.ost for the Debutante Stakes, and the-bracket, Severe and Entail (£243,, was installed favourite, Lady Ruler (£128) and Legatee (£100) being next in request. Lady Ruler, Severe and Legatee, who drew the inside barrier positions in that order, were quickest .to begn'i from Round Up.; Across the top Lady Ruler and Severe-were in charge from-Legatee, l Sergia, Round Up, Grateful, Rompalong and Nightlass, with Entail and Sim last. Lady Ruler and Severe .turned for home on terms, witli Legatee, Sergia,"Grateful and Round Up following. The" two leaders were-fighting. ■ it out. when Legatee put in his claim 50 yards front the post, and, "galloping In ' great style, got up to win by a head from .Severe, who beat Lady- Ruler by a neck, with Grateful, Sergia, Round Up, Nightlass and Rompalong next. The winner is by Posterity from Motley, a good two-year-old in her day, .and is.the first of Posterity's stock to race.- Legatee is a fine galloper, and should win over a longer distance shortly. ' A Surprise. Brigadore (£330), Emotion (£204) and Silent Bill (£183) were the popular fancies for the Gonville Hurdles, while Illuminate had only £41 10/ invested on lis: oJiancei' ■ Morrath and Illuminate were the first to break the line, with Captain Dan, Brigadore, Emotion, Silent Bill and Red Sun next. Illuminate was in charge going past tho stands from Morrath, Brigadore, Emotion, Silent Bill, P»ed Sun, Captain Dan, Esteem and Calydon.. There was -little change along the back, and crossing. ihe top Illuminate and Emotion were in command from Brigadore, Silent Bill, Esteem, Red Sun, Morrath {and RuaiiuK 'Illuminate was first to straighten up for the run home from Brigadore, Emotion, Silent-Bill and; Esteem, and once over the last fence, went on to score "by half a length from Brigadore, who" beat Emotion by two lengths. Gallant Knight (£330) was made a staunch favourite for the Trial Handicap, with Leo Collossus (£221) and Sir Nigel (£208) next best , backed, while Whetuma was at a good price. Ethiop, Amante, Gallant Knight, Royal Feast and Leo Collossus were first to become prominent, but a.cross the top -Gallant Knight Was just isliowing the way to Royal Feast, Dawn Princess, Sir Nigel, Amante, Ethiop, Sunee, Whetuma and Flammariou. An Inquiry was held into Sir Nigel, ridden by K. Voitre, coming in too quickly in . the Trial Handicap about half a mile from home. It was decided that the occurrence was accidental. The Classic Event. Synagogue and Hunting Queen were the withdrawals from the Wanganui Guineas, leaving six to go to the post. Pin Money (£279), Mother Superior (£266) and Superior (£174) were entrusted with the bulk of the investments. Superior, Evasion and Pin Money, were first to become prominent, and along the back the order was Superior and Evasion together, Mother Superior, Inveresk, Pin Money and Burnish, where the lastnamed attempted to go up but was checked. Inveresk then made a forward move and was joined by Pin Money in the lead as they crossed the top, with Mother Superior, Superior and Evasion next, and Burnish last. Pin Money led into the straight from Mother • Superior, Inveresk, Burnish and Superior, and went on to win by two and a half lengths from Mother Superior, who beat Burnish by half a neck.
