INTOXICATED IN CAR.

YOUNG MAN LOSES LICENSE. PLEA FOR FINE INSTEAD. A request that the magistrate impose a substantial penalty rather than deprive his client of his driver's license was made to Mr. W. It. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court this morning by Mr. E. L. Thwaites, when Richard Venner Neville, aged 30, sharebroker, appeared on a charge of being in a state of intoxication while in his motor car on Saturday afternoon. Neville pleaded guilty. Inspector Edwards said attention was first attracted to Neville's car because it was parked in a prohibited area. The arresting constable saw defendant walk from a hotel to his car, and on accosting him found that he was under the influence of liquor. Stating that Neville was a manned man with three children, Mr. Thwaites <said that he used his car in his business. Ho had been driving for eight years without an accident. Three weeks ago accused underwent a serious abdominal operation, and on Saturday, when he had three Bhandies, he did not realise that ho was so weak, and would be affected by them. "The loss of liis license will mean more to him than the fine," eaid counsel. Neville was fined £10, and his license was cancelled for three months.
