TASMAN CUP.

WOMEN'S GOLF SUPREMACY. AUSTRALIAN TEAM ARRIVES. To play New Zealand in the second contest for the Tasman Cup, and also to compete in the 38th annual championship of the Dominion, a team of Australian women golfers arrived from Sydney by the Niagara this morning. The original contest at Melbourne last year resulted in an unsatisfactory win for the New Zealand team, three of their opponents being affected by illness. Consequently the matches which are to be played on Wednesday week, durjng the course of the tournament will give a better idea of the merits of the players on either side of the Tasman.

The Australian' team, which is being managed by Miss K. Austin, is a strong one, despite tho fact that a number of leading players were unable to come to New Zealand. The team is captained by Mrs. J. Robinson (handicap 0), who last week defeated both Miss Oliver Kay and Mis 3 Bessie Gaisford in the concluding stages of the Australian championship. The other members of the team are Miss A. M. MacLeod, Miss C. Lascelles, both handicapped' on 5, and Miss J. Hammond and Miss L. Bailey, on 4. Miss Austin said that the team was not as strong as could have been chosen had other players been available. Two of' those selected, Miss L. Wray, the original captain, and Miss Shirley Tolliurst, had to be replaced. The New Zealand team will not be announced till the day before the contest, though two of tho four will bo Misses Kay and Gaisford. At present Miss P. Heiean, of Wanganui, is regarded as the third selection, while another player on the same handicap, 3, is Miss BarnsGraham. The latter's play in the South Auckland and Auckland championships was not up .to expectations, and the choice of the fourth player at least will depend upon tho play in the inter-island match on Thursday next, with which the tournament will commence, and the performances in tho first two rounds of the championship. The visitors Vere met at the Niagara by officials of the Titirangi Golf; Club, on whose course the tournament is being played, and later went out to tho links. There they were officially welcomed at luncheon, and later played on tho course.
