NEW ZEALAND WINS. FIVE GOALS TO TWO. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Saturday. The hockey Test match between New Zealand and Australia was played to-day, tho teams being as follow New Zealand: Moore, Ewan, Claris, Vercoe, H. Ilore, C. Horc, Dey, Bay, Watts, Betts, Wellbourne. Australia: Reid, Elliott, Rothwell, Cullen, Irvine, Lee, Leggett, Stening, Allen, Penman, jjilner. A heavy drizzle did not appear to affect the ground, which was in splendid order. New Zealand scored in the first minute of play, Dey initiating a passing movement which went to Watts, who scored a splendid backhand stroke. New Zealand 1, Australia 0. Australia retaliated and Milner shot wide of the goal. The final round of the Devonport Shield was played at Itemuera on Saturday, when wins were recorded by St. Luke's, Soinerville ami Wesley. On these results the trophy this year goes to the St. Luke's team, with a lead of one point over Somerville. In Saturday's games St. Luke's defeated North Shore by 0 goals to 1, Wesley beat Papatoetoe by 5 to 1, and Somerville, after a very strenuous game, got a win over University by 2 goals to 1. In view of their forthcoming match with the Australian touring team, the Rodney representatives (winners of the White Horse Cup) were given a try-out against an Auckland B eleven at Remuera on Saturday. In the opening stages the visitors took the lead, and the locals had an uphill fight throughout to leave the Held with honours even, five goals apiece being recorded. Play was very fast throughout, but much of the hard hitting of the visitors was wasted energy, and in marked contrast to the more skilful work of the locals. The winning team was as follows:—A. O'Connor, A. McDonald, A. Stewart, F. Shuttleworth. M. Sanson, R. Mcßain, M. Nicol, M. White, R. Reid (captain), K. Bond, M. Sherriff.
