GAINS TO FIGHT PETERSEN. LONDON", September 0. The heavy-weight boxers Jack Petersen and Larry Gains have finished training for Monday's bout for the Empire title at the White City. The attendance is expected to reach 30,000. Petersen (holder of the title) is to receive £5000, win, lose or draw. Gains, the coloured challenger, will box on a percentage of the gate receipts. Archie Hughes, of Auckland, outpointed Clarrie Rayner, Blenheim, New Zealand feather-weight champion, over 15 rounds in a lightweight contest before a packed house on Saturday evening. Both weighed 9.3%. Supported by a lengthy experience and a heavy punch in both hands, Hughes excelled at in-fighting.
