MINING NEWS.

| GILLESPIES BEACH. I Tho second annual report of Gillespie's Beach Gold Diedglng Company, Limited, l which is operating in South UYstland, states that dredging was commenced in January, i and duriug the six months to June 30, J 1014oz of gold were won, realising £7872. I The sum of £ 632 was paid In export tax, which, the report state?, is a heavy charge, especially as increased exchange cost the company over £ 1000 during the erection of the dredge and power plant j Early operations were retarded on account of growing timber, but the dredgeis now practically in clear ground which extends over the greater portion of the claim. After referring to the rr.ct that the company has pegg*-d off au additional 140 j acres, the report mentions the prospect of placing another dredge on the area, conditional upon values being proved. The accounts show a net profit for the six months ended June 30 of £4142. Aft-r providing for the debit balance of £1417 brought In from the previous half-year, nnd I writing off the balan.s of preliminary I expenses, £556, there It a credit at profit and loss appropriation a<count of £213!). The capital of the company is £35:000 In \i shares. Other liabilities are creditors, £CS6, and tllrectors' fees unpaid, £273. The total of assets is £38.100. Since the date of the accounts a dividend of Id a share has been paid. SKIPPERS OPERATIONS. Reporting on the work carried out at the claim of Skippers Limited, during the past month, the company's consulting engineer i states that the weather conditions wore very unfavourable for mining during this period; there were two heavy fails of snow. the cold was intense and during the latter half of the month heavy floods delayed work both in the paddock and on the completing of the fluming. The latter, however, had withstood the heaviest of floods without suffering any damage. Before the floods caused a cassation of work In the first paddock, two-thirds Of the area had been bottomed without nny disclosure of importance. A deep crevice, filled with big slabs of schist, was encountered near the head of the paddock. Up to the time the floods occurred the wash had not proved to be auriferous in this crevice, when it was still being worked in a downstream direction. The downstream end of the paddock would be cleaned up. while the connecting of the piling with the Humin: was being carried out: then as soon as this had been done, the pipes could be laid on to the site of Mr. Smith's first paddock, where he had to abandon a good run of gold, owing to the seepage from the river being too heavy for - his elevator to cope with. It is anticipated that good gold returns will result , from working this portion of the ten ncre ' beach. There still remained a good chance of • a run of gold being encountered at the downstream end of the first paddock, as a portion of it had been protected from the scouring action of the waters coming out of the gorge, by a projecting spur of rock. This area would bo workable as soon as the short length of piling being driven between the existing piling and the fiuming was completed.

TALISMAN DUBBO OPERATIONS. A start is to be made almost immediately by the Talisman Dubbo Gold Mines. Limited, to test the unworsed portion of the Crown property adjoining its original claim at Karangahake which it recently acquired. This area, which lies to the eas-iward of the Talisman ground held by the company, and above the No. 5a Crown level, already driven about 1900 ft, contains the Crown re?f intact. Men are to be put on to sample the reef along the whole of the 1900 ft of the drive, and assays will be taken to determine the values. YIELDS OF COMPANIES.
