HERNE BAY RAIDS.
HOUSE VISITED TWICE. TWO SUMS OF MONEY STOLEN Xot content with entering a house in Cox Street, Heme Bay, about 10 o'clock on Saturday night, and stealing £4 10/ from a waistcoat hanging on the end of a bed in which a man was sleeping, a burglar, of the daring "Slippery Sam" type, returned at- 4 o'clock yesterday morning. He remained long enough in the same street to enter another house, steal £1 5/ from a purse which he found in a dra\v v er, and make a hurried exit through an open window. The first house entered was that of Mr. S. W¥ Gedye, who was asleep in the front bedroom. The thief walked in through the back door, which was closed but not locked, and worked so silently that he extracted the money from Mr. Gedye's waistcoat at the foot of his bed without disturbing hie peaceful slumbers. Mr. Gedye is a milkman, and after leaving home at 2 a.m. yesterday he discovered that the money was missing from his waistcoat. Two hours later Mrs. Gedye was awakened by a man opening, her bedroom door. She called out to other members of the family, but before anyone had time to get out of bed the thief had vanished via the back door. The second house visited by the same thief was that occupied by Mr. E. Mansfield. Unable to squeeze • through a small window leading to the kitchen, the thief got an iron bar from the washhouse, and with At propped up the lower sash of the window to get through. He then left open the front door at the other 'end of the passage to ensure a quick means of escape. From a drawer in a dresser the thief stole £15/ and left by a window.
