OBITUARY.
MRS. E. BYCROFT,

CAMBRIDGE, Tuesday,
A pioneer of Auckland city, Mrs. Emma Bycroft, died at her residence. Palmerston North, this morning, aged 87. She was the widow of the late John Bycr.oft, founder of the well-known firm of Bycroft, Ltd. Born in Parnell, Mrs. Bycroft was the fourth member of the family <« the late Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Stone, Her eldest brother, the late Mr. C. B. Stone, of Takapuna, was stated to be the first white boy born in Auckland. Miss Stone was married in Auckland, and after about 17 years'. residence the family went to Te Kowhai (Waikato), but returned a few years later. Mr. Bycrott resuming control of the Bycroft firmWhen the late Mr. John Bycroft duM in 1892 deceased removed to the v\aikato, and 35 years ago took up residence ivith her relatives in Palmerston Nortli. Here she had resided ever since. Mrs. Bycroft enjoyed perfect health all her life, and brought up a family of eight sons. She retained all her faculties to the end. She was a prominent Methodist, being associated .with the Auckland and Onehunga churches in earlier years. The late Mrs. Bycroft is survived by her family of six "sons, also 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
