WANGANUI NOTES.

MIDIAN GOING WELL.

"ENTAIL AND CANOPY.

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")

WANGANUI, Tuesday. The recent rain and a thick fog this morning combined to make the going very heavy for training operations. The course proper, with the flags wide out. was open for fast work. • Midian, Entail and Canopy were given a working gallop over four furlongs, the two first-named finishing on terms, with Canopy a couple of lengths away. Midian is m good shape, and if he keeps sound he will take a lot of beating in the Duri-i Hack Flat and the Moutoa Hack Plate at Wanganui. Entail giv 3s every promise ot proving a top notch two-year-old, and the son of Posterity and Episode is already going well enough to suggest that he will make things very interesting in the Debutante Stakes at "Wanganui No Humbug went a mile by himself, finishing up by running the last six furlongs in 1.24%—a good performance on the heavy track for a hunter. She is going t<) Aew Plymouth to run in the Ladie? .Bracelet on Thursday and Hunters'" Flat on Saturday.

Burnish and Korokio were companions in a five-furlong flutter, and they ran the distance in 1.8, with Burnish doing ifc nicely. The Pombal—Episode filly will represent Mr. G. M. Currie in the Wanganui Guineas, the winner of which is to be decorated with a riband in the club's colours, purple and gold, with the words Wanganui Guineas, 1934 season. This was, the custom in the days where the Wanganui Derby was run instead of the Guineas, and no doubt the owners will appreciate the provision of this token of classic honours.

Korokio is to' fulfil her engagements at the Hunt Club's meeting at New Plymouth, and M. Gardner will also take Artful Dodger up with him. Korokio is looking in good shape, and has been "working well, but not showing her old-time dash. Artful Dodger is in capital order and should run prominently. Knollmere was given a sprint over a couple of furlongs, which he cut out in 27%5. The Grandcourt gelding should be as good as ever if looks go for anything, ■provided the recent operation has been successful, but thie will not be known until he is tried out over a longer distance. There is every prospect of a division 'of tho field in the Moutoa Hack Plate Handicap at Wanganui being necessary. The - Wanganui Wholesale and Retail Licensed Trade has presented a canteen of cutlery valued at £55 for this event. It will not be possible to make two separate races for this event, with the totalisator open on each, as eight races already figure on the programme for the second day. It is also likely there will be a division of the field in the Durie Hack Handicap on the first day, as the "safety" number at the six-furlong barrier is 23 and 37 have been nominated. The committee has already moved in the direction of providing, should the necessity arise, for two separate races, and has previously agreed in'such case to provide an additional stake of £100.

Don Erma, winner of the Grandstand Steeplechase at Wanganui, is reported to have.gone a trifle sore, and may not be seen out at the Hunt Club's meeting. This will be unfortunate as the Danilof gelding was in great heart and promised to be very hard to beat in his engagements. There are ten horses left in the Wanganui Guineas as under:—

Mr. N. Blackmore's br f Evasion, by Night Raid —Mandane. Mr. A. Barlow's ch f Superior, by Colossus —Rillet. Dr. C. Bluiidell'e b f Naniakia, by Gay Shield—Quinkama. Mr. S.
