VICTORIA LEAGUE.
.To welcome new members the Victoria League gave a reception in their rooms yesterday afternoon, which was attended by a large number of members.
The president, Miss Mowbray, received the guests, wearing a black cloth coat and skirt, fur wrap, and black hat relieved with white. Miss Mowbray, in her address of welcome, gave a statement of the league's activities. During the past year 109 new members had been enrolled, and there were now eight branches of the league in New Zealand. The enthusiasm shown by members and the work done for the Empire was a great joy to her. The various committees' work was also briefly outlined, the president pointing out to the new members how hard the Auckland branch of the league 1 had worked to attain its present success. She appealed to the members to give their support to Daffodil Day, which is to be held next Friday, the proceeds of which are to be donated tp the Victoria League, the Navy League and tlio" Society for the Protection of Women and Children. .
An enjoyable musical programme waa arranged by Miss Kent, comprising songs by Mrs. L. V. Learyy Miss Phyllis Cato, and a, recitation by Miss Joan Koss. Mrs. M. Wilcox was the accompanist. Great interest was displayed by the now members in the exhibition of garments made from used clothing, hand knitted sets of baby clothes, quilts made from discarded silk stockings, the work of the sewing committee.
The hostesses for the afternoon wore: Mesdames H. T. Clurkson, L. M. Frith, F. G. Alfrey, M. Pilling, D. Ogilvic, C. R. Kceblc, P. R. Skeatcs, Misses Teapc, E. Dinncen, Slater and Amy Sutton.
