BATTERY CRUSHING WORK.

THAMES, this day.
The Thames School of Mines council met last evening-, Mr. C. S. Donovan presiding. The president referred to the recent death of Mr. J. B. Judd, a member of the council, and eulogised his services to the school. A resolution of sympathy was extended to the relatives.
The director reported that during the past three weeks 13 bullion assays and 194 gold and silver assays had been put through, while the battery had crushed 21J tons for a return of 220z 12dwt, valued at £93 15/8, taking the value of gold at £6 an ounce. The director stated that the banks were now paying £5 10/ in one amount for 22 carat gold, which was equal approximately to £6 an ounce for fine gold.
