WESTERN SUBURBS.
LOCAL BODIES CONTER.
A conference of local bodies of the western suburbs took place at the New Lynn Borough Council Chambers. There were present: Messrs. Routley and Rosier (Glen Eden Town Board), Carey (Henderson Town Board),- A. Bishop (Waitemata County), G. Lawson, Severne and Carter (New Lynn Borough Council). Mr. Lawson presided. -
The conference was called with the object of arriving at a satisfactory scheme for the annual registration of push cycles,, together with any other matters that may require local co-opera-tion. It was decided, on the motion of Mr. Carey, seconded by Mr. Severne, to forward a proposal to the Minister ,bf Transport urging compulsory regis'tration of bicycles, at a registration fee of 1/ per annum. A copy of this resolution is to be sent to the members of Parliament for the district.
On the motion of Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Routley, it was decided that the conference urge the duplication of the north line from Morningside to New Lynn, all delegates believing,that the. time was opportune to undertake sucii;work^which. means of absorbing all local unemployed: i- It wag, resolved, ajso that '.the proper authorities be approached with a request to consider; putting into' operation Ahe construction of the. as such' scheme would afford an excellent opportunity for • :t{ie, further absorption of Auckland unemployed men at standard ratee of pay. - '
; The delegates unanimously approved the principle of propaganda being carried out by each local authority to pro;mbte suburban -settlement.
