GRAND NATIONAL.

WORK AT RICCARTON. A QUIET MORNING. SOME JUMPERS SCHOOLED. (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Following Saturday's Hunt Club meeting the track work at Riccarton this morning was not exciting. A large number of horses put in an appearance, but their tasks were ihainly easy pacing on the sand. Jerry Boy, a novice, who is not engaged next week, jumped four hurdles very well, and Don Jose gave a good exhibition over six hurdles. Quinopol, Punchestown and Rational 11. went once round over the steeplechase fences in the middle. The first-named pair led over two, but all were together at the third fe.icc. Quinope.l then dropped back, being a few lengths behind over the double, where Rational 11. landed just in front. These three are due to school over the Grand National country later in the week, Valpeen and Valves being others for whom similar arrangements are being made. Billy Boy worked steadily this morning, moving quite freely. The idea of schooling Thurina over the Nutional fences has been dropped. He seems all right, but in view of occasional attacks of soreness his trainer considers it unwise to take unnecessary risks. Rebel Star was sore after Saturday's race and is unlikely to start in the Winter Cup. This will leave L. J. Ellis without a mount. It is understood J. Dooley rides Davolo and A. E. Didham Palermo in the Winter Cup. Vintage pulled up well after Saturday's race and Polydora is doing well, having recovered from her recent slight mishap, but her trainer is not anxious to run her in the Winter Cup. Brigadore is still suffering from the knock which he gave one of his knees on the trip south and is unable to work yet. The scratching of Scarlet Rambler for the Kennels Handicap on Saturday was due to a recurrence of an old injury. It is probable that she has finished her racing career.
