SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
A pleasing function took place at the Mount Albert League of Mothers on Thursday, when the president, Mrs. M. Turner, presented Mrs. Mcßride, J.P., with a beautiful jardiniere and kentia palm, in recognition of her services as social convener for a number of years. Mrs. Mcßride has resigned, and Mrs. W. Browne has been appointed.
The Northcote Co-operative Social Club met in the parish hall on Saturday evening. Enjoyable musical items were given- by Mesdames Gunman, W. F. Ward, A. J. Hurley and B. Mayall, and Mr. James Blackledge was master of ceremonies. The president, Mr. W. F Ward, stated that the annual fancy dress ball would take place in September.
A jolly party was held in the Kingsford Hall, Otahuhu, on Saturday evening by Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Thomasen, in honour of their youngest daughter Rene's twenty-firet birthday. Mrs. Thomasen, assisted by the Misses Ivy and Olive Thomasen, received the guests. Pastel shaded streamers and balloons, with rose shaded lights, made effective decorations. Miss Edwina Smith, of Hamilton, gave a clever exhibition of ballot and classical dancing and also recited*. Mr. Thomasen presented his daughter with a gold key and the toasts were proposed by Messrs. W. Darby and R. Carter. Among those present were: Mesdames E. J. Smith (Hamilton), R. Carter, L. Bay, F. James, Brosnan and the Misses Ivy, Olive and Rene Thomasen, Doreen Box, Phyllis Speedy, Dorothy Monaghan, Lewis Grey, Trixie Parsons, Mary Stansfield, E. Jones, Edwina Smith, J. Totman, Dorothy Thomas, Isabel Milton, H. Dutton, G. Phairen, E. Wright, Rita Boneham, Rona Boneham, M. Adams, E. Phillips, C. Cummings, G. Flynn, L. Cldtworthy, H. McDonald, E. Brosnan.
