ORANGES SELL BETTER. P-VEB SUPPLY OF APPLES. NEW POTATOES CHEAP. Prices for most lines o£ fruit ehow no change on the rates ruling towards the end of last week. Oranges are, however, an exception, as there is a fair demand at slightly improved prices. A shortage in this line will be relieved next week as the Ivaretu is due on Monday from the Cook Islands with a cargo, including 17,000 cases of oranges, 30UO cases of bananas, and 1500 cases of tomatoes. The Waipahi arrived to-day with bananas from Fiji. The small quantity oiVered this morning met a very poor sale. The market is over-supplied with apples, for which fruit the demand is slow, even at the low prices ruling. Supplies of local lemons arc on the short side, as the demand has been good. Tree tomatoes arc being sent in freely. Tomatoes: Outdoor, extra choice smooth, 4/0 to 6/; others, 1/ to 4/; hothouse, 6d to lOVid lb, extra choice to 1/3 lb. Bananas: Ripe, 10/ to 15/ case. Tree tomatoes: 3/ to 5/6. Pines: 10/ to IV case. Coconuts: 12/6 sack. Vegetables. Very heavy supplies of new potatoes have reached the marts, particularly for this time of the year. As a result prices eased to from Id to l%d per lb. Old Southern potatoes are also in heavy eupply. Good sound local onions meet with ready snlo, but soft lines are hard to quit. Cabbage is still very plentiful, and sells at low rates. Cauliflower, on the other hand, is in shorter supply, and meets with good demand. Brussels sproute are coming forward in fair quantities, realising from 3'/ 2 d to 4d per lb. Good lettuce sells well, but supplies are hard to get. Pumpkins are in better demand, and kumarae also meet with fair Inquiry. AH root vegetables are in good supply, with fair all round demand. Poultry. At to-day's auctions the eupply of poultry was medium, and the demand was keen for all table birds except ducks. The prices paid remain practically unaltered. Selling rates were as follow: —Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime, 3/G to 5/3 each; not prime, 2/6 upwards; light breeds, prime, 2/6 to 3/6; not prime, 1/6 upwards. Fat roosters: Heavy breeds, prime, 1/9 to 2/G- light breeds, 1/6 to 11. Fat hens: Heavy breeds, 2/9 to 3/0; light breeds, 1/0 to 2/6 Pullele: Heavy breeds, best, 2/6 to 4/; smaller, 1/3 upwards; light breeds, beet. 2/6 to 4/; smaller, 1/3 upwards. (From Our Own Correspondent.) PUKEKOHE, Monday. Onions have shown a further increase of £1 10/ per ton during the past week, and are now selling at from £9 10/ to £10 per ton. The long-keeping quality of the onions at present offered is causing a good demand, which has been maintained steadily during the past few weeks. No further supplies of local potatoes are coming forward. Southern are selling at from £7 to £7 10/ under a steady demand. Special "all heart" cabbages m-c quoted at 2/0 per large sack; Savoy cabbages, Tit 4/6; cauliflowers, 6/3; carrots, 2/6 per sugar bag; parsnips, 2/9; beetroot, 2/3; swede turnips, 2/6; pumpkins (Triamble), 7/6 per cwt; lettuce, 4/ per banana case. Cauliflower plants are bringing 11/6 per 1000; cabbage plants, 7/6 per 1000; onion plants, 3/6 per 1000.
