N.Z. MOUNTED RIFLES.
COL. SPRAGG'S APPOINTMENT. v Lieutenant-Colonel C. R. Spragg, V.D., Reserve of Officers, late commanding the Waikato Mounted Rifles, has been transferred to the active list, promoted to the rank of colonel, and appointed to command the Ist N.Z. Mounted Rifle Brigade. Colonel Spragg served in the South African War with the 4th N.Z. Rough Riders, and, after the return of his regiment, with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment. In the Great War he left with the Main Body N.Z.E.F. as ship's adjutant of the t.s. Orari, and was,, preparatory to and during the Gallipoli landing staff captain and assistant embarking staff officer for Egypt. He 1 served during the early months at Gallipoli and throughout the Sinai and Palestine campaigns with the Wellington Mounted Rifles, commanding his regiment at the battles of Katia, Bir el Abd, Kirbet Hadrah, and during the advance into the Jordan Valley and capture of i Jericho. He was wounded on three occasions.
