MOSLEM WEDDING.
SPECTACLE IN MELBOURNE. Said to have been the first in Melbourne, a wedding was performed accordin" to full Islamic rites at Fitzroy on June 23. The bride and bridegroom were Mohammedans, two Indian priests officiated, and principals and guests at the wedding wore Indian costumes. The bride was Miss Neishia Deen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Galob Deen, the "father being a native of the province of Kashmir. Mr. A. M. Deen, the bridegroom, who was born in West Australia 0 , is a full-blooded Mohammedan. Picturesque Ritual. The ceremony, which lasted about half an hour, was marked by the colouiful ritual of the Orient. An impressive feature was the arrival of the wedding ling, reposing on a rich green satin cushion, borne by Moh-Saeid, the youthful nephew of the bride. This boy, aged live years, was the youngest member of the Indian community present. Dressed in flowing robes he made an interesting addition to the picturesque gathering. Placed upon tne member (altar) was a copy of the Koran, 93 years old, and the bride, according to Islamic marriage rites, faced the east during the ceremony. According to Mohammedan custom, hot dishes only"were served at the breakfast. There were novel decorations, the most artistic of which was an elaborate model of the Taj Mahal, a wonderful specimen of Indian craftsmanship. Other decorations included handwork from-Peshawai and Kashmir. Among the guests were Indian residents from all parts of Victoria. Attending the bride were her two nieces, the Misses Aysliia and Zobedah Deen, both wearing Indian costumes of a delicate green shade. The bride's gown was of jade green and "-old, with a long veil which revealed only her dark eyes. In contrast, the bridegroom wore European dress and a white turban. A service according to English custom was also held.
