PROBLEM EASING.

UNEMPLOYMENT WORK

DEPUTY-CHAIRMAN RESIGNS

OTHER DUTIES CALLING.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this clay. The deputy-chairman of the Unemployment Board announced to-day that his' resignation has been tendered to the Government, for the reason that the unemployment problem has somewhat eased, and his time will bo needed for his new duties as East Coast Commissioner under the Native Purposes Act. It is reported that detailed figures relating to the unemployment position which can be published shortly will show a highly reassuring reduction in numbers. Inquiries into the possibility of the Unemployment Board reviving the building subsidy show that the matter has been considered, and a large amount of information secured regarding the present position of the building industry, but no decision has yet been reached. Mr. Jessep, who is a successful Hawke's Bay sheep farmer, was appointed a member of the Unemployment Board in 1931, at the time when Messrs. W. Bromley and P. R. Climie were also appointed. In April last Mr. Jessep was appointed East Coaist Commissioner under the Native Purposes Act, 1931, to supervise native affairs and development.
