THIEVES BUSY.
THREE HOUSES ENTERED.
WEEK-END VISITS.
House thieves were busy during the week-end, and made at least three visits, two to houses in Gladstone Road. Parnell, and one to a house m Ss. Mary s Koad, Ponsonby. Between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Saturday, the house of Mr. J. Huston, 33, St Mary's Road, was entered while the occupants were absent. Four pairs of shoes, a shirt, and a purse containing about 5/ were stolen. Early yesterday M morning Mrs. A. Smith, 62, Gladstone Road, an invalid, was awakened by somebody in her bedroom with a torch light. Thinking it was the nurse who shared the room. Mrs. Smith spoke to her, but received no reply till she spoke a second time, and when the nurse answered from her bed Mrs. Smith realised that she had been speaking to an intruder. The man then left hurriedly by a window. Nothing was stolen. Presumably the same thief then entered a neighbouring house, where he stole £4 5/ in money and a box of cigarettes.
