WIRELESS PATENTS.
POOLING COMPANY FORMED. MARCONI EXPERT'S) MISSION. Mr. H. M. Dowsett, who has .been associated with the Marchese Marconi since 1899, when he established wireless communication between France and England, and is now research manager for the Marconi Telegraph Company, is a through passenger by the Aorangi from Sydney to Vancouver on his return to England.
Mr. Dowsett was in Ausralia and New Zealand from 1905 to 1907. He established in 1906 wireless communication between Point Lonsdale, Victoria, and East Devonport, Tasmania, a distance of 200 miles. Afterwards lie "came to the Dominion and installed a wireless demonstration set in the Christchurch Exhibition. It had a radius of nine miles.
Mr. Dqwsett's recent visit to Ausaralia was by invitation to consult witli manufacturers in connection with a broadcasting patents pool. His mission has been successful, and Australia and New Zealand manufacturers of wireless receiving sets will in future pay only one royalty instead of making payments to each patent holder, as in the past. All the most influential research competing organisations of the world owning patents are included in the new pooling company, which has been formed under the title of the Australia Radio Service and Patents Company, Ltd. "The establishment of the pool means that any manufacturer in Australia or New Zealand can produce sets with the payment of a single royalty only," said Mr. Dowsett. "This is a more complete arrangement than has been made anywhere else."
