BURGLARS ACTIVE.

THREE PREMISES ENTERED. UNLUCKY CAFE PROPRIETOR. Thieves were active in Auckland during the week-end, and three premises were entered. From a cafe in Lower Nekon Street a watch, a small sum of money and a quantity of cigarettes, tobacco and chocolate, of the total value of about £7, \yrre taken; from a boot store in Karangahape Road two pairs of footwear disappeared, and from a garage in Ellerslic a sum of money was stolen from a till. Smithy's Cafe in Lower Albert Street, owned by .Mr. Smith, was broken into some time between midday on Saturday and six o'clock this morning. Entrance was gained through a small window in the kitchen opening on to Winstonc, Limited's, yard. The watch taken by the intruders had been left by the owner in the kitchen, and- the cigarettes, tobacco and chocolate were taken from shelves in the shop. A sum of six shillings in pennies and halfpennies, left on the tobacco shelf, was also stolen. The till, which was empty, had been left open by the proprietor and was not interfered with, while cigarettes upset on to the Moor by the thieves were not picked up. The fact that the window through which admission was gained is less than 12in square and that small footmarks were found on a heap of sand stacked outside the window make it appear certain that juveniles were responsible for the "break. ,. Robbed Fifteen Times. "It is the fifteenth time that I have had thieves •in my place," said Mr. Smith this morning. "During the live years that I ran the pie stall next door I was 'touched' fourteen times. Then, when my pie stall was burnt out without any insurance on it, fifteen months ago 1 took over my present shop. This is the first time I have had thieves here. I will again give £5 for information which will lead to the conviction of the thieves." From the retail boot store of H. S. Chambers and Sons 232, Karangahapo Road, thieves slole a pair of women's shoes valued at 18/11 and a pair of men's boots worth £1 5/0. The premises were locked up early on Saturday afternoon, and the crime was discovered by a policeman before daybreak this morning. To got into the shop the thieves first smashed a window in the back of the premises and then broke a wooden panel to get through another door. To enter thu front shop they had to break a glass panel in another door. Entering a small room oil the shop, they wrenched the drawer from the till, only to find that it was empty. From the number of boxes strewn about the floor of the shop this morning it appeared that the intruders, in selecting two pairs of footwear, made certain Unit they secured the right size. The C. and S. service station in Panmure Road, Ellerslic, was entered between 10 p.m. on Saturday and 0 a.m. yesterday, and the sum of £2 15/ was stolen from a till. Entrance was gained by forcing a door.
