MT. EDEN PROPERTY

QUESTION OF VALUES. ASSESSMENT COURT SITS. OVER A HUNDRED OBJECTIONS "As I have indicated before, I am not going to accept the rents being paid to-day as the true value of property,"' said Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., this morning when the Assessment Court sat to hear objections to property valuations in the Mount Eden borough. There were over 100 objectors. Earlier in the year the Court sat, and then the valuer, Mr. E. W. Alison, jun., admitted that lie had allowed the previous values to stand, whereupon Mr. McKean held that there had been no valuation as required by law, and he ordered a fresh. valuation to bo made, and appointed Mr. McConibc as valuer. At that time there were over 1400 objectors. In the objection lodged by the Wesley Training College Board a reduction was made of the rental value of sections in Landscape Road to £12, and on the remainder of the block owned by the board a reduction was made to £49 for the lot. The rental value of two shops, in Dominion Road was reduced from £135 each to £120, and on a block of flats in View Road the value wan reduced from £357 to £220. A witness stated that the flooring was so bad that one of the tenants said a bed had fallen through the floor. In several cases the values set down by the borough valuer were sustained.
